Question 87 22ret Timing Chain

K.. So I had to replace the head gasket and now am trying to figure out if there is a way to adjust the timing chain tensioner without having to remove the whole front of the engine. I would rather not have to and would like to know if there is a trick to adjust it from the top of the head or something?

if the 22ret is the same as the 22re tentioner it automatic, no manual adjustment did you pull the timming cover when you had the heads off and get an look at the guides and tentioner

Question

Actually I didn't pull it before I put the head back on. (I know.. Stupid me) I now have the head back on and the tensioner is pushing out really far cause the chain had slack in it and now I can't get the sprocket back on cause it's out too far. How do I get it to release?
