86 pickup brake upgrade?

I am to the point where I need new pads, and am thinking of doing a brake upgrade on it. Are there any stock toyotas that can contribute to a larger caliper/rotor? my calipers look like they are a decent size, and are 4 piston(stock) but just looking into my options at this point.

If you go to a 89-95 caliper they are bigger and will bolt right in. You have 2 little pistons and 2 large, the later ones are all large pistons.

89-95 V6 calipers/rotors are the way to go! The really really ideal ones are 92-95 4runner/truck v6 as they redesigned the anti-rattle spring into a stout one piece unit that was much less likely to come out of there.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.

I have a 88 4runner that was recently lifted and now has 33s. I want more braking. Could I use the 92-95 4Runner brakes? I have a 15 in rim if that matters

It doesn't. If you were doing the Tundra upgrade then it would.

I've also got bad brakes on my '88 4Runner
So I can take 92-95 4runner/truck calipers, and still use my rotors?
Or do I need rotors from the 92-95 4runner/truck?
Is there any modification needed for this?

You cannot do the tundra upgrade on 86-95 IFS rigs. The only modification that might be necesary to install the V6 brakes is minor trimming of the backing plate.
