86 Fuel tank - carb vs EFI hole diameter?

On an 86 4runner that was converted to carb, I have fuel starvation problems. If the old (disconnected) EFI in-tank fuel pump is in the tank and clogged up, can I remove the EFI pump and bracket and replace it with a plain intake tube? If so, is there a bolt in replacement from a carb tank, or are the hole diameters different?

The fuel supply assemblies are different sizes. EFi is a large hole and carbed trucks have a small hole.

Copied...
Also the tank on the left is for a fuel injected truck.Bigger opening to allow for the fuel pump to fit in. The tank on the right is carbed and it may not show in picture is but is smaller. This tank came off of a 2wd truck.

Thanks, great photo, shows the difference.

Anybody adapt an EFI tank fuel supply for a carb system?

I would think that with a few measurements and some brazing skills, it would be no sweat.

So just a tube to the bottom of the tank? Would a hoseclamp to a rubber hose work? Does it need a strainer?

Yes, just a tube to near the bottom of the tank.

A rubber hose might work, but a rigid pickup would probably be more reliable long term.

I would want a strainer in mine.

I am going to convert two of my trucks to carb at a later time. I have a spare carb tank that I will use on one but on the other I am going to use the "J" line for the pick up line and the fuel pump line as a return or vent line.

I will modify the "J" line and use a filter on it.

There is another filter located on the frame. This is a picture of a truck that I had to fix with hacked wiring. I will move the external filter under the hood when I get around to doing it.

So you would switch the fuel supply and return lines where they enter the tank, right? Are all tubes the same diameter?
Also, that is the carb model in-tank filter, not the EFI strainer, right? How would you fit it - Lengthen the horizontal of the J?

I have not gotten to it yet but I think I am going to use the Supply line as the vent line and the "J" line will be my new Supply line when I do convert over.

I am hoping I can either straighten or cut the curve off of the "J" line and use install the in tank filter on the "J" line. I believe all of the lines in the tank are the same size. The "J" line is near the bottom of the tank. You don't want it completely on the bottom but off of the floor just a little bit so as not to suck up water and gunk.

The new filter in the picture above is the one that is in the tank for a 22r (carb) the one on the frame is the external one and I plan on moving that one under the hood.

I have seen where someone in the past has try to convert a truck from fuel injection to carburetor and it is a wiring night mare. If you are going to do it, I would suggest getting a wiring harness from 85-88 pickup. You will need to re route the wiring for the tail lights to inside the 4Runner body. 84 carb trucks have an external voltage regulator is why is did not mention the 84 model pickup or runner.

Here is the correct way to convert one https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ with only just switch the EFI and carb parts around. I don't know if you will have to deal with emissions but if emissions is not a problem, go with a Weber carb and life will get so much easier for you on it.
