86 4runner 38s and autotranny
86 4runner 38s auto tranny?
Ok guys I'm in the middle of a solid axle swap and I was wondering if I'm crazy to want to run 38s? I have an 86 4runner with 22re and autotranny, is this going to work? With 5.29s or 5.71s will it be ok? I already have the tires, took them off an old cj I have and I'd like to use em? What do y'all think? I do want to eventually do a manual transmission swap but for now I have the auto. It is my DD but I also want to wheel it I'm willing to sacrifice some on road performance.

Ok well sounds like it will work then. Looks like the saw zaw with get a work out soon to make the 38s fit. Would the 5.71s be better for wheelin? Like I said it's my DD but gotta beable to get dirty.

lifetime warranty and offer 5.71
which you should definitely go with if you have an auto.
I wouldnt even consider anything higher. 5.71, or lower if you could find em lol

I have been pleased with G2.....Nitro was good too. But, if it were my rig, I would go with the US GEAR. US GEAR changed the way they cut the gears(sourced the gears from a different place?) and they are the best I have seen so far. I set up a 571 US GEAR for a local guy and he has been beating the hell out of them with 38~40 inch tires. He has a 5 speed manual so that means they are taking a bad beating. They won't break.
By the way, I have 1 US GEAR 571...new.....professionally cryo treated(not heat treated)...cryo treated from this local operation http://www.cryogenicsinternational.com that you can talk me out of for 200 plus shipping of about 20 in the 48 states. It's a short pinion head 8".....sometimes called a 4 cylinder set. Same strength as the so-called V6 but cheaper in price. Most of my gear installs are of the 4 cyl pinion head type also. http://gearinstalls.com
It's not a US GEAR unless it has the "USA" and the emblem after it like this one.
