86 22rte bad head???

well i bought my 86 22rte about three weeks ago with a rebuilt engine. there were many things on this that were nig rigged beyond belief (should see the exhaust). so driving it, and it got pretty warm and died, not up to red. compression is well not good. 60,~5,40,60. no coolant in oil, and no oil in coolant. also when turning over w/out plugs to get some coolant out of the cylinders #4 continuosly dumps coolant.
Plan at this point is to pull head.
uncle josh is a mechanic and thinks it is the head, but me not having as much experience figured i would see what you guys had to say.
thanks,
Mike

It's probably a cracked head, my 22rte was cracked between the exhaust and intake valves of #4 as well. With the larger compression chamber (83 cc.) than the 22re head (54cc.) there is less metal between the valve seats and these heads are prone to cracking. It's pretty common. Sounds like yours has a crack into a water jacket.

Wow! Didn't know they were prone to cracking, from the research i did saw these are very prone to head gasket failure. What causes the head to crack? just that it is thin? Are the cracks in the head repairable or new head?

New head! 22Re heads work pretty well on these with the stock low compression pistons.

Depending on who you ask and what website you access the Rte has either a 63cc or an 83cc combustion chamber. The Re has a 53 or a 58cc combustion chamber. These are the numbers I've seen.
