85 4 runner- 3-5 lbs fuel pressure? WTF?

85 4 runner, 22r fuel injected. My truck started stalling at idle. It runs fine while on the gas and i can keep it idling at 1k rpms with a little push on the pedal. When NO pressure is put on the pedal the truck drops to 500rpms and then stalls.

I hooked up a fuel pressure tester between the fuel inlet line and FPR. It reads at MOST 5lbs and drops to zero with any throttle.

I drained the gas tank and replaced the fuel filter(pain in the ass) and STILL get 3 to 5lbs at MOST. Is this normal or do i have a bad fuel pump? Ideas?

thanks in advance.

What's the pressure at when you're spinning 1000rpm? If it's still 3-5lbs, I suspect your gauge is actually broken and you're not looking at a fuel supply issue but more likely an Idle-Air control valve/motor (very common).

small things first. check the filter, it may be clogged, but if it were truely a delivery problem it would die when you give it throtle, and idle alright as it needs less preasure.

The more you rev it the more gas you need. The pump in the tank runs the same reguardless or engine load. If you can rev the engine up then your have enough pressure. Sounds like something else because the pump will work or it won't usually.

The air flow meter (AFM) has contacts in it for the fuel pump. Too little air flow through the meter and the pump contacts open, shutting off the fuel pump. Make sure you have no air leaks between the AFM and the throttle body.
