81 4x4 motor into a 87 2x4, will it fit?

So my motor has a bad head gasket, a guy local has a 22r from a 81 4x4, i need to know if it will fit into my 87 2x4,

flywheel?, exhaust? my motor is carbed so im not worried about that, im concerned about the smog/ vacume pump on the earlie motors to mine.

Thanks In advance. also he wants 425 for it, complete. good price? what problums should i look for?

Thanks in advance ,Joe

went and looked at it, the intake is differnet than mine, so my smog stuff will not be the same, but i plan to run a weber anyway with no smog stuff, and the exhaust will not line up, but this dude has a header for another 50, so 475 for a complete motor with header.

Motor came from a 81 that was wrecked, owner pulled it and parted it out.

Should i just do the head gasket and chain on mine? id have to pull it anyway to do the clutch, and id want to clean it up.

what do you all think?

If I remember correctly the oil pan might give you some trouble, but dont quote me on that because that is a 10 year old memory. If it does i have a 22r 2wd pan I will give you if you pay the shipping. I have some 22r parts that I dont need that were passes to me from a good friend two years ago.

i still have my 22r with the bad gasket to pull needed parts from, liek the intake and pan like u said if i need it. But thanks for the offer man.

Since i really want a 4x4, im tempted to just use some of that sealer stuff, im sure this leak has been there awile from the looks of it. it runs great, real strong and up untill a few days dident leak a drop.

so use the sealer, sell it off and get what i really want and put the time and money into it

I just put a 1994 2wd engine into my 1988 4wd. There wasn't a ton different. I had to swap the flywheel and clutch to the '94 since it was an automatic and mine is stick. Other than that just swap the oil pans like mentioned above. I also had to swap alternator brackets, which was an unexpected change.

So what are the things i should look for on this motor? to tell if its bad,

or is it easier to jsut pull the motor and do a head gasket job and stick it back in, or buy this motor, change some parts and stick it in....?

why not do the HG with the motor in the truck? why go thru the trouble of pulling it? you do that you might as well get it rebuilt since its already out

well i cant afford to rebuild it, im moving the 1st, and this is really hurting the wallet. the previous owner, ran this motor for along time with just water in it. Lots of rust in the coolent the 2 times i have flushed it, so it might be trashed once i pull it apart.

it would be cheaper to get a motor for 400 change some parts and stick it back in myself, cost me maybe 50 to swap motors instead of 200 for head gasket and change parts Plus the time of doing it and all the could be issues.

Maybe i just blow it up and charge $5 a head and pack the place.

imho i wouldnt have a problem running a motor that had just water in it (unless you live in a colder climate) the rust would most likily be from the radiator, the water pump, or the heater lines. i dont believe there is anything in the engine that would rust out and leak.......you should be able to back-flush the system and get it pretty clean...... any way! around here, that price for a running (hell even a ty 22r) is decent....
