Im installing 12 inches of lift on a 1994 xtra cab and i am going to try to convert my double shaft into a single and it is going to be 70 1/2". Does anybody have any experience running one this long? Pros/cons?

12 Inches of lift huh? I don't think it's an issue of how long it is as much as the angles involved. I think your ujoints will be so bound up that it will be hard to not break stuff, but I don't envision anyone wheeling something with 12 inches of lift.

You need to be a little more specific with what type of set up you have before anyone can really answer your question. Right now it's just a shot in the dark with such a vague question...

Ok. Here we go. I have a 1991 reg cab it has 12 inches with an sas conversion springs in front with 6" trail gear shackles and hi steer. The back is problably closer to 10 inches springs and 4"blocks with 6" shackles. Running 5.71 gears with 16 40 15 swamper ltb's. Im swapping all of this over to a 1994 xtra cab and i know the longer shaft is possible but i am wondering if anyone has ran one this long with good results. By the way the rig will be wheeled. Not a crawler mainly mud and river riding.

most people here will say that its too high... i disagree, that is a sexy truck. I wouldnt take it crawling though

They are called sliders... not step ladders

Still, they don't look that bad up that high. I just can't believe that a little 22re will actually power that thing.

It doesn't have blocks up front and the 94 its going under has a built v6. The built 22re that was in it pulled it very good but im hoping to get more from the 6.

you're replacing the 22re with a 3VZFE? epic fail.

drop in a chevy 4.3l vortec. they fit better than the 3.0, and loads of power

Cardan / CV at the trans output and rotate the rear axle to point at the trans... or even cardans at the trans and pumpkin.

Honestly though, I'd worry more about the front prop shaft than the rear drive shaft.

I had a front shaft made with double cardens out of an 83 to get more angle and it worked good in the 91 so it should work fine in the 94. The guy i deal with at the drivetrain shop here in town said the small tubing at the rear length may fail. I am just wondering if anybody has ran one with the small tubing at a length similar to what im working with or should I stay with the center bearing type and extend the back half? He said they can bushing the flanges to use a larger tube but that can get a little pricey. i know what will work as far as angles, lengths, doubles or singles. I am looking for opinions from experience as to what would work best on this rig. Thanks
