4x4 wire.com has a really good 5M-ge swap write up by Andrew Zook. I used this and other guys experiences as a resource when I did mine. The most challenging part is probably the wiring, having said that there are only about 6 wires to make the thing run, but the way that I did mine was to remove the engine and body harness from the truck (86 pick-up) remove everything that I didn't need for the 5m from the harness and build a custom harness that looks factory. If your 85 pick-up is a carb truck and not EFI it's going to be a bit more challenging but it's not rocket science. Not everyone who has done this swaw does it the same, the key is to get lots of info, read as much as you can on the subject, and use others experiences to decide what method you will use for your install.
Good Luck!
