Check the wiring for the rear lights too. Mine had quick connects in the wiring that had come loose and the reverse lights didnt work.

Quick connects from the factory? I looked @ the wiring in the rear door(inside & out) & just under the rear but I didn't see any quick connects.

they're pretty much worthless anyway, I would do some aux backups off of them once you fix the connection.

intermittent power is (besides very frequent on these) usually loose/corroded connection points, use the FSM wiring diagram to locate the correct loom and start hunting. you can use a continuity tester to help isolate the break faster. it's pretty rare that the wiring itself is bad unless there was some trauma to them. fuses, relays, connectors, switches/devices in roughly that order...

here's a short list of crap that doesn't work on my '93 runner:

rear window (key)
rear window switch (center console)
hi-beams sometimes (my fault, loose wire in a supplied connector that I have not replaced yet)
back door indicator switch is a bit off
glove box light (not the bulb, the circuit itself)
alarm system (removed a few weeks ago)

pretty sure there's more but ya know...

maybe I should have posted this on the "what's broken on your toyota" rig, hahaa

I used a jumper on the plug and they lit right up so I'm gonna try to clean the switch(it has oil in it) and see if that helps. If not I'll order one from Rockauto. I bought a tractor utility light from Walmart to wire into it once I get it fixed. I'm not very good at all w/electronics so I'll probably just tap into reverse wire. People to say use a relay but I don't know how to wire one up or even what it does!
