4wd woes

i need a little guidance, ive searched the threads, but really didnt see my problem. i went to use my 4wd yest, it shifted right in to 4 hi normaly, light came on, and nuthing, no 4wd, no noises. my running gear is all 1986. im going out to drain the oil and general inspect it this morning before we get nailed by the tropical storm. i'll check back in if i find anything, thanks in advance. p.s. not having 4wd is kinda like leaving home without your wallet........ it just doesnt feel right

You have Hubs that are manual or auto? Is the front drive shaft turning?

Hubs are locked, the T-case is in 4wd (hi or lo), on flat ground with no tires in the air and its still spinning the CV axles?
Sounds like your hubs are not locking in.

locking hubs are no longer locking... would be my best guess... that's why it's always diagnose it like that... shows ya right where your driveline to wheel connection stops."problem spot"

i would take off yer hubs and check it all out.

How long since you used 4WD and you know it was working?
Maintenance since then?
Something isn't adding up.

Oh well thats normal. That will happen regardless of whether the hubs are locked or not, and if its in 2wd or 4wd.

Put the entire truck on jack stands ( or remove the rear driveshaft and put the front on stands), lock the hubs, put it in 4wd, put it in gear and see if the front driveline is spinning....
