4Runner Transmission Woes
So I had just written up a huge post about my transmission problems when my computer died. So here's a less articulate version b/c I can't be bothered to rewrite the whole thing.
91 runner 4x4 Automatic transmission
Stutters like crazy when rolling in Drive under own power and when accelerating. Also stutters when at speeds under 65 MPG or so. When under heavy acceleration, does not stutter. Was told a year ago that my 2nd gear slips, thus I expected this issue, but not in the form that it has taken. For a year I have had zero problems with the truck and relatively good gas mileage (16-18) Now all of a sudden all of my gears seem to be slipping 1-4 and even reverse? Would all gears really start slipping at the same time?
I'm thinking either vacuum leak, compression loss, cylinder failing, torque converter failure, or total transmission death. Please god let it not be the latter.
When idling in P and N is does not stutter except for every 20 seconds of so when it dips from 700 to 650 for a slit second. Misfire?
I realize this is mechanic territory and I will end up taking it in anyways just thought I'd ask before I shell out the cash. If I had it my way I'd have the transmission swapped for a manual. Anybody in Southern CA willing to do it for cheap? Maybe throw in a 3.0 to 3.4 swap as a bonus? XD
Thanks
Mike
