4runner tailgate locking sensor

4runner tailgate locking sensor
I recently acquired a used rear gate for my 1991 4runner and was wiring it up yesterday when i discovered one extra wire coming from the truck. The issue i am having is that the Rear Door light on the dash is on and the window will not go up or down. From what i can visually tell the door is closed all the way. Is their some sort of limiting switch or sensor that i can bypass (perhaps fix easily) that will allow the window to move under the motors power. id prefer to fix the switch for safety reasons.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Symptoms sound like a latch isn't engaging. Pull on the gate from the inside on both sides, does it move? Unplugging the wire from the sensor near the latch that wasn't engaging fixed this same issue on mine. Or if you're feeling spendy buy a new one for $60. Believe the wiper also has a limiting switch but gate replacement shouldn't affect that.

Give it another look over and see if you can find a connection point for that extra wire.
If it doesn't have an attachment point it maybe a ground connection for the gate. They are pretty consistant with the color coding, if it's wht/blk (white with black markings) it's a ground. Easy to test. If it has a hoop instead of plug it's that much more obvious.

I thought there were two sensors, and just wiggling the gate wouldn't affect them letting the window up, that's just to see if a latch isn't engaged. Switches/warning light are triggered by latch position, not gate position.

i take it you either swapped the whole rear hatch or took and put your parts into the used hatch??
Have you tried to make sure that the motor works if just swapping the whole thing. easy to power the motor making sure it goes in both directions .
every thing once you have run the harness into the hatch should just plug in.
the left hand latch is the one that grounds and shows the hatch is closed if it is corroded and does not make a good connection the light stays on.

alright finally figured out the dash light issue. I peeled the electrical tape off of the gate harness to find some of wires were worn through, so i took my old harness and swapped it in. Now i can close the gate, lock it and the light goes off. That Problem is solved,
now i need to find why their is no power going to the window motor. before i even put the gate on i made sure the motor worked, which it does. just no power is coming through the harness to the motor? Not to sure if its this one wire that needs to be grounded or what, the wire is green with blue dashes aprox. ever inch or so.
Anyone out their happen to have a wiring diagram hahaha?
( i should clarify that the worn through wires in the harness were touching )

And of course the obvious but overlookable, make sure the "window lock" isn't turned on

My 1987 4Runner had a rear window that would work occasionally. When it didn't work, I could push on the hatch with the correct amount of force and it would work. I just tried to unplug the sensor on the driver's side latch and that made it not work at all. jbtvt, I don't think unplugging the sensor is an option.
