4Runner Om617 swap
Hey everyone and happy Thanksgiving!
I've lurked this forum for a while just for tid-bits of information usually pulled up on google.
Been on the hunt for a cheap 'yota not sure of the intention but hey things seem to fall into place
Found a 1990 4runner SR5 v6 4x4 on craigslist for cheap, after doing some back and forth I got it for less than scrap price.
The motor is toast, Sounds like someone dropped a handful of nuts into the valve cover. I think it dropped a valve seat, noise doesn't change when you pull plug wires.
So long story short I'm a mechanic at a Mercedes-Benz and euro repair shop. We regularly acquire junk cars for the local fire fighter training school.
1980 Mercedes-Benz 300SD
Naturally aspirated (bummer)
Stupid high miles. 300K+ Odo busted
covered in crud
fired up with last breath of battery, than when I went to move it to lift didn't want to fire for anything. A fresh jump pack and starter fluid fixed that )
Well, now everyone's up to speed time for some Q&A
After seeing damn near every swap having the front cut hacked or modified for radiator clearance, I'm planning to move the motor toward the rear. Aside from the obvious Any reason this would be an issue?
The other thing is accessory's are all on the opposite side. I see a lot more trouble lining up brackets for moving the components, as opposed to trying to adapt the powersteering and ac lines from the Mercedes. This may change its possible the ac could interfere with steering...Thoughts?
As for SAS.... what are opinions on FJ60/62 axles? Any domestic equivalent that are similar/cheaper? IRRC there 9.5 with fordish design and toy shafts/outers. or would a toy axle be better with the 8 inch fj80 high pinion.
Well, I work full time so this may not be super fast paced. BUT I will keep it updated regularly.
Thanks!!!
