He ran it for about 4 years then lost interest went to rice burner cars. He got it up to 17lbs of boost didnt have a head gasket problem so i think im going to do this to my pickup this winter on a donor motor and play with it. His wife said it was faster than her fj80. I have never drove a fj80 but i assume they are quicker than a 3.0L.

Me likey. Note he said it was $700 but he already had an additional injector controller and some other parts. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has faith in the 3VZ.

$6900 for all the annoyances of a 3vze and additional annoyances from a turbo setup? lol no thanks... i'm pretty sure you could swap in chevy everything for half the price and be putting out twice the power and half the engine bay clutter. you'll spin any tire you can fit on there, no problem 
if i had a 3.0 (which i don't right now, thank heaven) i would quickly be sourcing a 3.4 and rebuilding it in the garage for when the 3.0 inevitably takes a dump.. my $0.02. i think it's a PITA and not worth the money or effort. some people don't think so, but those people have lots of patience. i dont.

My 22r can spin my 35s easily and spin them shifting into second and third gear at high rpms. I would never put my money into building up a 3.pos motor. Save up you pennys and drop a 3.4 in it

funny how people slam the 3.0 and think God himself crafted the 3.4 when the only major difference in construction is the heads and a bigger bore, its still a VZ motor!!! otherwise its got the same crank and rods. 3.0 crabk is cast while 3.4 is forged

me too seems like it would be fun. anyone know what the atmospheric pressure difference between 6000ft and sea level in pounds? thinking a low boost turbo would be ok as long as it booste3d low psi to compensate for altitude like our kubota diesels with high altitude turbo compensation
