3vze dying after starting, just replaced alt

I just replaced the alternator on my 95 4runner. It starts up fine but after about 2 seconds it cuts off, it just wont stay running. I took the intake off so it was easier to get to but when i was taking the plug of wires off the top of the intake above the filter i mightve pulled the wires out or broke the harness somehow. Im not sure if I did or not but it doesnt look like you can even check to see, its sealed up. Could that be causing the problem and telling the engine its not getting any air ? I have no idea why it wont stay running, everything is hooked up. Could the reman'd alternator be bad?

Plug the AFM connector back in. The AFM has a switch that shuts off power to the fuel pump if the computer doesn't detect air flow in the meter. What you describe is exactly what happens when the AFM is disconnected so it sounds like the signal for the fuel pump isn't getting out.

Bummer. The FSM has a description on how to test the AFM. That's where I'd go next. If the connector itself is broken, you might find one at the junk yard and splice in the wires.

undid the metal clip, unscrewed it actually and then pulled too hard. i just opened it up and 3 of the connections were broken, so that is my problem.

ok so now u have to pull the top black cap on the air meter and u will see the three connections u broke,or more, u can see if u can solder them back together or find a air flow meter from a junk yard. this is going to be a lesson for u i bet.

Yep, I saw all the connections i broke and tried to solder them but it didnt work. Ill have to find a junkyard vafm or i might do the vafm swap with a camry/celica. and yeah its a lesson haha, a simple alternator replacement turns into this.
