3RZ ECU and Harness for 22re?
Hey does anybody know if I could take the wiring harness and ecu from a Tacoma 3RZ and install it on my 22re? and do away with the MAM(air meter) and be able to use a tacoma mas? I just thought that would be cheaper than the SDS EM-4 system.

As Scuba so eloquently put it...its not really a possible mod without some major reworking and rewiring. The 3RZ relies on a crank sensor to tell it when to fire the dizzy (assuming were are talking 95.5-97.5) where the 22RE does not. Besides that, everything is directly opposite on the 22RE from the 3RZ...ie exhaust on the right, battery on the left, etc etc.
I supposed its technically "possible" but it will NOT be a plug and play application.

I guess I should have clarified some things first....My 22RE EFI is bored, ported, and stroked, and running a larger camshaft...i.e. .455 lift duration @ .050 238/248...
I know every one is swapping out the 22re for the 3rz, I cannot, so I figured I'd be able to find some 3rz stuff in a junkyard, I'm wanting to do away with air flow meter. I was just wondering....I'll be getting an SDS EM-4E at tax time, then I'll be going with MAP sensor. I've got a LOT of $$ invested in this motor and I just wanted a bit more, you all know what that's about? BTW the cam is great but I need dual valve springs, it's too steep and rocker arms fall off the back side...too noisy!! This motor build has a potential to make GOBS of power the way I built it. Thanks for any info....

There is an easy answer to this type of question.
There is also a catch 22...
I presume it is POSSIBLE to do this - but if you had the know how, you wouldn't be asking the question.
Therefore if you ask the question, the answer is NO.
Stand alone ECU would be FAR EASIER.
Or just do a 3RZ swap.

Everytime I search this thread comes up, so I will resurect it for a moment. Thank you Google!
The original poster wanted to run his 22RE with a 3RZ ecu. BUT what if we reversed this.... I wanted to hear any feedback on swapping in an early distributor style 3RZ and run it off my 1994 22RE ECU.
The sensors can all be swapped around and all, The AFM could care less what engine it is in front of. knock sensor is probably even the same on a, say a 96 RZ and 94 22RE.
I know it wouldn't be ideal, but it would really inexpensive. I am finding it VERY hard to find a 3RZ harness and mating ECU to wire it up to my truck. I would have to also find a 89-94 engine harness to sacrifice to splice it into my truck. The ORS harness is just about the same price as the PURCHASE price of this truck!
original price ... $750
Indulge an experienced Toyota tinkerer...I am running an 84 22RE that I have in my current 94 truck now, and it's not fun to drive-even after an extensive list of mods, better, just not fun!
My other car/engine wiring experence is a 2TGTE, it's 2L twin cam version of the original 2TC with a T3/T4 turbo and Megasquirt...I think I can spice a few wires to wire up my 3RZ I have for the swap, but finding these needed harnesses to splice is becoming a major roadblock!
Thank you for ANY feedback you might have!!!!

If your research is correct and all the senors will work In Theory it should be able to work,
It never fails most times there is always something that won`t work or be very expensive to solve
Is your 22REC distributor going to bolt into the 3RZ engine
Does the Drive Train bolt up
Fuel and exhaust systems need to be swapped I really don`t know
I think there is more work here then you think
Buying a New 3RZ engine harness will be much cheaper till your done
It is Friday 60 hours this week this is way to much like work

Can't delete this corrupted post... So here's a pic of the engine I got in there now...

No- But a 2/3RZ dizzy sure will. The x2 wire output *should* produce the same signal as the 22RE part If not, swapping dizzy internals can be looked into.
Does the Drive Train bolt up
Yes! - W59 bellhousing/clutch/flywheel/slave make the swap a virtual bolt in into my W56 equipped truck.
The clutch lines need moving/replaced. Bolt in motor mounts need purchasing too.
Fuel and exhaust systems need to be swapped I really don`t know
This has been covered in great detail on other sites, thank goodness, and you are correct
Fuel- bend originals or cut/fab your own
exhaust- thinking of a simple crossover pipe to not have to relocate the gas tank
P/S - Tacoma SAS adaptor parts get this done.
A/C- is a compressor manifold swap- possibly
I am not running EGR
EVAP is one vacuum line
I think there is more work here then you think
I am sure there will be, but way easier if you break down the big project into a bunch of mini projects- to not overwhelm ones self
Buying a New 3RZ engine harness will be much cheaper till your done
I have a x2 coil pack 3RZ that is complete...and completely disassembled by the PO. No harness though. I can use these parts to swap for a dizzy head /manifold easier than finding a 22RE/3RZ engine harness and 3RZ ECU
It is Friday 60 hours this week this is way to much like work
That's why I am web surfing instead of wrenching!
