3.0L oil pressue

How much oil pressure should a 3.0L have. I just got the oil gauge installed and at fast idle the gauge was reading 90lbs. That to me sounds to high. I did not have time to get the motor warmed-up so no idea if the pressure would drop once the engine warms-up.

High oil pressure, especially with cold oil, is perfectly normal. It basically means you can run a lighter oil. ie, 5w30 instead of 10w30. High oil pressure is a good thing.

If your oil pressure was low, that would be a problem, indicating damaged/worn bearings or oil pump. That would be a bad thing.

Hey, Roger. You're back!

If the motor's cold....especially if it's cold where you live....that is normal. If it's higher than spec when warmed, that would be a concern.

Is the motor knocking or anything?

Oh, here's the specs....but, of course, this is for operating temps.

Yes it making noises but I'm thinking that it is the water pump. We have a small amount of fluid dripping down the block on the drivers side. I can not see from where so I'm assuming water pump.

Well, it may be messy, but one way to locate the leak would be to spray aerosol foot powder around wherever a leak is possible. It's easy to rinse off, though.

Does the fan clutch have any play in it?

I thinking water pump or timing belt idler is my noise problem. I listened with a stethiscope(spelling). The next project is to fix this.

Does it sound kind of like a scraping sound?
