3.0 power steering problem. I think?
Hey there. Long time reader first time poster.
Recently I've been having a problem with my 1991 4Runner 3vze R150
I dont exactly remember when the noise started but the noise goes away when i press down on the brakes or when i turn the steering wheel or when RPMs are above 1000.
No difficulty in steering or braking. Noise occurs at idle and moving.
At first i thought a vacuum leak so i checked all my hoses and no leak.
A/C idle up still works. the hot idle is at 800. Cold start idle is around 1200. Timing done less than 300 miles ago.
Fluid in the reservoir was brown and nasty so i replaced it with ATF. No air or bubbles in the system from what i can see.
Kind of lost here. Searched far and wide for similar symptoms or problems but nothing.
Thanks for all the help so far.
link is to a video with the noise and it stops when i press down on the brakes.

With your engine off, grab the PS pulley and see if there is any slack in that bearing. That could be your pump whining but I would have thought you would hear it louder when you turned the wheel rather than it go away.
