3.0 missing under load

While idling it runs ok and I can rev the engine without any miss, as soon as I accelerate it starts to miss, with significant power loss, until I spot accelerating and hold at any speed.

All of my plug wires are secure. the coil is also good.

How do I check Fuel Pressure (is there a certain adapter I need before I go out and buy a Fuel Pressure tester?)

Could low exhaust back pressure cause this?

Thanks for the help.

Egr? Sounds like the EGR valve is opening to early upon accel. Unplug vac line and try driving. Dirty air filter? Check fuel pressure.... I believe the 3.0's fuel pressure is about 35-40psi. Fuel filter? <-- Easy on the 3.0 if its not rusty. You have to tap into the main line fuel pressure... hmmm its been a while since i've mess with the fuel sysem on the 3.0... Usually the exhaust back pressure won't be an issue unless your running straight pipe from the manifold.

Well the exhaust system has plenty of leaks including the back of the manifold on the passenger side... Its all on the list to be replaced but only if i can get the rest to run correctly. I will check the fuel pressure tomorrow, eh maybe monday.

i had a ranger that use to do that every now and then when i would need plugs. i would do fine if you were easy on it but once you loaded it up it would spit and spudder. try new plugs wires cap rotor and filters and see where you get with that,

OK just replaced the plugs and cleaned a dirty air filter. The Cap, rotor, Wires, coil were all replaced about a year ago but I will pull the cap off and check it.

After replacing the plugs today I went for a drive. It seemed to help a little but when the engine warmed up it started missing bad again.

I have a fuel filter I am swapping out now but as always I ended up braking a fuel line trying to get it off. So tomorrow I'll run in and grab some brake line and replace it. I dont suspect the fuel filter is going to make a ton of difference but for $20 i'll try it.

Anything I may be have overlooked?

Ok so I decided to pull the codes off the CEL, its always on, always throwing an igniter code. Igniter is fine but anyway, I check the codes again this time it throws only one code... 52 knock sensor. Is this a simple swap out replacement part? I think I remember reading its more than that.

thanks

the knock sensor is under the intake...in the valley between the cylinder banks. You would need to drain your coolant, remove the plenum, and then the intake to get to it. but it's simply screwed into the block there and easy to remove. Depending on where you are, knock sensors can go for as much as $200 from the dealer.

Yea I know where the knock sensor is, But the 52 code is all other these boards and very rarely is it the knock sensor. So I am trying to narrow down what else it could be causing the knock sensor to throw a code> I'm leaning towards the O2 sensor but cant really justify replacing it with the current state of my exhaust system. Might need to do everything at once.

Any body know of the best exhaust setup for these truck? I hate my current dynomax.

Thanks

any codes (some could be stored, so you might have them even without a CEL). Have you checked your ignition timing?

A problem with the fuel pressure regulator (that causes fuel starvation at open throttle) should throw an over-lean code.
