3.0 finally running

As the title says, we finally got the 3.0 running after the rebuild. The first glitch was a fuel line crossed with a power steering pump vacuum line. That dumped alot of fuel into the motor and forced me to pull all the plugs, pull the new exhaust system, and drain and replace the $8.00/qt. break-in oil. Next was the distributor was off one tooth. That was pretty simple. Got it fired up last friday (1-9) and have put about 150 miles on it since. After about 50 miles, the cel came on so I pulled the code. It was reporting a code 71. Possible egr issue. To make sure, I cleared the codes and it has not shown up since. One thing I do know is that it is running rich. Not only can I smell it but it only got 11.5 mpg on the first full tank. Timing and idle are set to specs. With no cel being thrown, what could be causing this? I know it might be a vac leak or an exhaust leak, but with the exhaust system we put in being so loud, I am not able to hear any leaks. Not only that but the truck runs great. Any ideas?

You can usually feel an exhaust leak. And a vacuum leak will cause the engine to idle poorly. Neither of those control the flow of fuel. Something else is amiss. Sorry I don't have the answer, but hope this little bit of info helps.

okay, so might need some specs on the truck itself...

but some possibilities could be the o2 sensor, the EGR system, maybe even need to adjust the VFAM...

congrats on gettin it running tho...
