3.0 distributer problem need help asap
So here's my problem, I have a 91 pickup with the 3.0 v6 the motor went TU I replaced it with a 94 swapped sensors so I'm all good there. The distributer for a 91 has a longer shaft that rides in a hole in the head, the 94 head has the hole but is much smaller because the 94 distributer is shorter shaft wise. I have the 94 distributer that fits. My main question here is can I splice in the 94 pig tail into the 91 harness and be good to go?

As a person who tried this i will recommend that you dont do it. First off the wire colors are completely different between the 2 distributors. IF you can find complete wiring diagrams for the 2 different years and can properly identify all the wires then go ahead and cut n splice it. I couldnt find the diagrams and had already cut my harness (OOPS) then i had to scramble to try and make it work. I tried for about 2 hours using every combination of wire i could think of. I ended up splicing my old distributor back in and getting one with the same plug.

Well in order to use the old one I'd have to find another head pull the motor all back apart get another gasket set and re do it all. Does any one know if it's possible to just cut the shaft shorter? The distributers are the same one shafts just longer so why not just cut the shaft and be done with it?

why would have to pull the motor all back apart?? one bolt and one plug and the distributor is out. When i was trying this swap i did get the longer shaft to fit in the motor but the shaft hole had some gunk in it. So some wd 40 and a little elbow grease and it goes in

You can do it.
You just need to know what all the wire colors mean. Then it's as simple as wiring the correct distributor pins/terminals to the correct color wires in the wiring harness. Though I suggest you splice into the pigtail from the earlier distributor(not directly into the wiring harness), because ALL of the wire colors are recoded at the wiring harness connector. So I can't tell you with 100% certainty what the wiring harness wire colors would be. But I can tell you what the wires colors are on the 91 distributor pigtail(since those definitely never changed).

The pinout for the 94 distributor.
Is that clear enough for you?

I do apologize for resurrecting an old thread but I was able to find this thread and hoped to add further light on the issue.

I am experiencing some regret from resurrecting too many threads. How do I delete this message?
