3.0 crossover

anybody get rid of the crossover on the 3.0 V6 without using headers. Any kits out there to do it? I would think somebody has done it if so how did you do it and what parts are involved.

step #1. get in your truck and drive to an exhaust shop
step #2. tell exhaust dude to get rid of the stock crossover(would be cheaper if you get rid of it yourself)and weld in a new crossover that goes UNDER the transmission.
step #3. pay exhaust dude.
step #4 enjoy not having to worry about blowing headgaskets..and you might even get a lil more of a peppy-ness if you go with a bigger pipe like say 2.25" or 2.5"

DONE!...its really quite simple?????

Newb here. What is the point of removing the crossover? Will doing that make it more difficult to pass emissions testing(CA). If you run weld it and it runs under the tranny wouldn't it make it very inconvenient for maintenance? I recently changed the tranny pan gasket but having the crossover there would have made it very difficult.

hey....i didnt think about that??!?!?..

hmm...maybe make it a bolt on crossmember..lol..or run it all the way back to behind the t-case..seen that one done...although i didnt like it..

*EDIT* it'd help with the headgasket issue on the 3.0 v6 because the amount of material between the crossover..and the #6 cylinder is significantly less than the cylinder across from it

or atleast that's what i've always heard..

whenever i get my 3.0 pulled out..i'm going to leave the crossover unbolted and run it to the exhaust shop and have em weld up a new crossmember..

and whenever i pull the 3.0..im gonna get a new clutch, rear main seal, pilot bearing, input shaft seal, throwout bearing and everything..that way HOPEFULLY (fingers crossed) i wont have to drop the tranny and screw with the crossover..lmao

they say the HG likes to blow there because its right where the odd bank(passenger side) dumps into the pipe... it actually dumps damn near in a T shape right there causing an excess of heat buildup... screw people saying that the gasket is thinner there... thats BS... or the fact that its the gasket material... its all about the heat, aluminum heads and a cast iron block...

Well I have my 3.0 out right now to repair the HG and I will freshen up the motor while I am at it but that crossover has always bugged me so I will attempt to move it and post back the results.

for those of you who have never removed the stock crossover before... its NOT an easy task... the manifolds and crossover are a 3 piece set... you wont be able to yank out of the crossover without unbolting the manifolds, removing the intake and moving around the vacuum hoses... I had to saw zall my crossover out. and trust me, I did not feel comfortable taking a reciprocating blade to my engine lol you WONT be able to just remove the crossover as one piece, its attached to the manifolds by 6, ( 3 each side ) inch and a 1/2 bolts. while you're down there, you might as well just replace it with headers.

well if you already have your motor out of the truck..or plan on taking it out..thats a damn good time to get rid of the crossover..lmao

but it is true...i've already looked..and it would be a MAJOR PITA to get it out with the motor still in the truck..hahaha

heeellllll nahhhh!!!!..lol..but since mines already comin out for a rebuild..(damn rod bearings..lol) so i might as well take care of that crossover while im in there!..hahaha..just gonna have to run open manifolds about a 1 1/2 miles into town to get the new crossover welded up..lol er well...more like bolted up..i think i'll go with close to the same setup as your headers have...different pipes that go to the Y or hell i might even do a TRUE dual exhaust..hahahaha

i dont think anybody on here has done that yet??

of course there would be basically no benefits..so there went that idea ..

single in single out flow 40..or CB vortex

Wow.. you must abuse that poor little 3vze.

I romp on mine all day long and aside from the initial hg fix from the dealer in 2000 or so its been great.

And by romp I mean constant heavy throttle to 5k+rpm

Ive yet to decide if $1,000 for headers, crossover and new tailpipe is worth it though.. Might just stick that in the 1uz fund!

First check the 3.4 swap folder. Tons of discussion about crossover there because putting a 3.4 into a 2nd gen etc, requires a crossover.

2nd, when you do the crossover be good about the heat sheliding. Not as important if you keep the 3.slow but with 3.4's with the added power, well lets just say we've had friends burn through their floor if they try and race a zippy car up 1-70.....

The fuel lines on the passenger side are pretty close aswell.. People with crossover eliminations or headers would be well advised to make sure they have the appropriate heat sheilding to keep from burning through fuel/brake lines..

also like to note that if your doing the head gaskets anyways, you can unbolt both the heads and the main pipe and pull them all off as one chunk...(the heads, manifolds and crossover)
