22rte vs. 22re timing cover
Ok , maybe a noob question here but i have been using search button and simply can not find a straight answer . Bought a 84 runner that someone had swapped a 22rte into . Picked up for a song due to water in oil ( could hear the timing chain eating the cover ) . Back to my problem , dug out old 22re timing cover and noticed different holes in back side of oil pump mounting . I have read alot about using the " turbo " oil pump in the 22r motors but will the 22re timing cover work on my 22rte ?

22re vs 22rte front covers:
You're noticing the difference in the covers and the associated difference in the oil pumps. The pumps and covers will interchange, but it's best to match the pump to the right oil cover. The relief hole for the oil pump is what you need to key in on. The 22RE has one. The 22RTE has two.
No harm done if you don't.

Thank you for responding . Didn't notice untill putting it back together. Only have turbo pump as last owner was nice enough to give me a new one in the deal. Would it be better to drill the relief hole or just leave it.
