22re will barley idle all of a sudden
so i put this motor in a week ago and drove it to and from work all last week, what i didnt know, is that 2 of the hols in the head to bolt on the header were stripped out and one had a broken stud, so i drove it last week with the exhaust leak, i tore the header back off this weekend and heli-coiled the stripped out holes and did the same once i drilled out the broken stud, i was driving it to work this morning and was really low on gas so i stopped to fill up, when i pulled up to the stop light to turn into the gas station, the thing would barely run, i thought i was running out of gas but i could rev it up to keep it running, so that seemed a little weird to me, i filled up the runner and kept driving to work, every time it would drop down to idle it would almost die, i checked all my vacuum hoses and there all still good....i did notice that when under the hood i revved the motor and held it at maybe 1500 rpms it did have a bit of surging going on.....im not sure where to go from here, but i gotta get it fixed asap.

it also seems like its missing, and much more noticeable at low rpms, im wondering if i have a spark problem, the motor has plugs in it that are a week old, but the cap, rotor and plug wires are OLD, i unplugged the TPS and it still surges, just at higher rpms, i have already adjusted it, so im pretty sure its not the TPS...

86 truck 22re: mine started that yesterday, happened right after i changed the head light on the driver side. so i just adjusted the cable on the tb, i've ran it close to low on gas, so my next step is the change the filter.... it runs fine now but if i let a lil slack off it'll idle funny then die. I also changed out the afm with my 89's , lil more responsive but not much. if you've had electrical issues i'd start checking the wiring....

well one ither thing i was thinking is when i pulled the header off to fix the stripped out holes, i unplugged the sparkplug wires and im wondering if i didnt damage one when taking it off, cuz its missing pretty good, ya ive got some funky electrical crap on this rig thanks to the previous owner but it hadnt ever been a problem before, so ill have to go through it and see, but its my daily driver so hopefully ill get it figured out right quick lol

i spent at least 3 hours fixing hack electrical work. so many splices and just twist the wires . but it's all fixed now at least that part. u may have pulled something loose. upfront there were some cheap o driving lights. i took them off but the wiring was spliced into the main head light wires. when i pulled off the extra wiring then i started having the problem yesterday. like i said i just adjusted the cable on the TB to where it stayed running and tightened up the 2 nuts.

ok so i just went out and was checking some stuff out on my 4runner and if i unplug#2 or #3 sparkplug wire one at a time, it actually runs better, still rough but better, not surging....not sure why this is, any thoughts....with #1 and #4 wires off one at a time, it ran worse as expected, but why would pulling a wire off make it run better?

Ive had experiences with my truck and my buddies (both 1993's) where any sort of change with this exhuast causes the truck to barely idle. A few days after we fixed our exhaust leaks the idling went back to normal
