22re tranny mate up question
Pretty straight forward question...I think.
1.) I'm currently installing a new 22re engine.
2.) I am keeping the old transmission.
3.) Before specifics, I think this is a general knowledge question.
I dropped the engine with a chain hoist, tranny still in the truck. Did the whole mate up wiggle and shake for two days and got all the holes lined up with alignment studs. Everything seemed square and I was one inch away from surfaces touching. Got some bolts threaded and started slowly working it together. Everything went together without crunching or excessive force.
So, now that I have everything put all back together and wired up, I went to fire the starter, and it is acting as though it doesn't have enough force to spin the motor. With the motor at TDC compression, it'll spin for a half rev maybe, and then stop and whine.
Question: If the tranny and engine are bolted together, and I can turn the engine over by hand with a breaker bar, can the engine and tranny still be incorrectly mated?
If so, then I am thinking leave the engine all mounted to the truck, and pull the tranny, stab from that side. Any up and up is helpful. Thanks guys.

I had a problem where the starter got jammed in a little crooked, and locked up the motor. I had to pull it out and re-insert it. I don't think that you have the same problem though.
Sounds like the power wire on your starter isn't tight, or something is preventing the motor from spinning. Like was said above, put a ratchet on the crank pulley, and try to spin the motor by hand. Try it with the plugs out too. there may be a bit of oil in one of the cylinders causing it to hydrolock.
