22re takes 3-5 long cranks, bad idle, sputters under load
I have a '93 pickup, 22re, 5 speed, 4x4. Just put in a new fuel pump and afm, but i still have the same problem. Takes several long cranks, when it finally starts the engine will rev to idle speed, sit, then slowly start to die down. If you feather the peddle quickly it will rev up. But if you hold the peddle down it will bog down, sputter, then the rev hard. Seems to me it's still not making enough fuel pressure, I'll try to get a video tomorrow

Do you have an old thread for this problem? What has been tested and eliminated already?
I assume you already have a manual.
Have you performed a fuel pressure test, or the cold start injector flow test?
Not to be mean but If you intend to just throw parts at it, might I suggest you take it to a localy owned and operated mechanic he like needs the money more than the parts store

Yes I do, and I haven't done either of those yet, I was going to go over the distributor, plugs, and wires today...or I might just have it towed to the place I have a night classes at (one of them is a fuel and ignition class)

Did a little experimenting today, distributor cap is clean inside adjusted idle screw down a little, switched out the check valve on top of the valve cover, didn't really change anything. Unplugged the TPS and it idles great, will stay smooth under a slow rev, however when I put my foot down to the floor it will sputter and hesitate then shoot up like before

Alright, in trying to upload a video of it running, is there a way to put videos on here or would it be easier to out it on YouTube and link it?

Will the vehicle drive -- can the engine pull a load? I've seen a failed ignition coil result in inability to rev up or generate power under load. Just a thought.

This should be a link to the truck running, I haven't gotten around to finishing up the bolts on the fuel tank and I'll try to get at that tomorrow. The fuel filter on this truck is 19 years old so I'll definitely be replacing that ASAP and I'm going to look up how much resistance should be on the ignition coil and test that out as well

Finally figured out the problem. It was the fuel pressure regulator, swapped it out just as a "well this is the only thing I haven't tried" cranked and she fired right up, drives and runs great now. Just waiting on a turn signal and belts then getting it inspected. Thanks for all of the help
