22RE rebuild or replace/3.6 swap

good day all....oops title should say 3.4 swap..... i'm on the fence of either rebuilding 22RE or replacing with a v6 ....,my truck is an 88 4runner w/22RE...on 34's all stock 4:10 gears with zuk mod and bj spacers...
this is my daily driver/hunting rig, not much for long distance highway driving...she has almost 500,000 km on the original ...what should i do ...is there a nother thread about/someone has done this...just looking at my options from people with experience....TIA

Red face

Check out our 3.4 swap section in the engine swap section

It all comes down to you want and just how much of the swap you can do yourself

What scares quite a few is the electrical end the merging of the two harnesses

If you do all the work and get lucky sourcing parts

The swap and rebuild are not all that apart cost wise

As far as difference the stock 3.4 is over double the horse power and to be truthful I have not driven any of the 22RE vehicles but to move them out of the way since I did the 3.4 swaps

Rebuild. Do you need 2x horsepower? What will you do with it? If you need it, and will try to use it, will the clutch cooperate? How about the rest of the drivetrain? If you''use it to go faster, should you get some better braking capability? No problem with increased fuel consumption (I don't think horsepower's free). Just thinkin'. 22RE's a marvelous engine except maybe for the timing chain guides.

I agree with Wyoming9.

It all depends on what you want to do with the truck. Does the low power output bother you or are you fine with it?

The rebuild would be the easiest and most straight forward option.

Do you feel that you can do the 3.4L swap successfully, including the wiring?

Some people can practically do this swap in their sleep while others would never consider the swap with the work involved.

I am not sure if I helped at all or just regurgitated what you were already thinking...
