22re NEED HELP smoking like crazy!!!

ok i just recently bought a 92 with a 22re and it had a little miss to it. so i figured it was out of time, and the truck was reallllly weak. well when we pulled the valve cover off sure enough it was a tooth retarded and from the previous owner that had the head rebuilt, they had tightened the valves up to much and had wore the cam completely down and messed the rockers up pretty good(which explains the weakness).SO i got all new parts including a stock cam from engnbldr, new rockers, and a complete headgasket set with a metal head gasket. well we put it all together and the truck runs like a beast as far as idling and throttle response and all that good stuff,BUT it smokes ungodly, and i believe it is white smoke which leads me to believe it is water or coolant but idk. its not black and it was dark when we were looking at it so i dont think it was blueish. but it didnt smoke a bit before we did the head, just your usual start up smoke for 10 seconds. the smoke does linger around so im thinking water/coolant.

so what do you guys think is my problem. im thinking the head gasket didnt get fully seats and ive had some more people tell me that as well but im no mechanic and the one i had doing all the work really dont know what it is. he keeps telling me its rings but it didnt do that before i brought it to him and i think hes just trying to get out of fixing it because hes lazy. but let me know something and i really appreciate any help. thanks guys

drain oil, check oil.
Maybe your timing chain cover has a hole in it from bad timing guides?

but it wasnt doing it before the head got rebuilt so i dont think it could be a hole in the timing cover.
