I have a 94 pickup with a 22re in it with 2 problems, if anyone can help.

1. If it is cold, it idles high "1200RPM", then the idle comes down just fine "750rpm".
When it is warm, and you start it "without hitting the throttle", it idles at about 400 rpm until you blip the throttle, then it idles fin at around 750 RPM.

2. When you shut the truck off warm, then start it when cold, sometimes the throttle sticks where the butterfly doesn't want to open until you stomp the pedal real hard. I have verified it is the butterfly on the throttle body itself.
I pulled it and cleaned all the carbon off the valve, and it didn't seem to help.

Any ideas on my two problems?

Oh yeah I've got basically the same exact problem.

Mine will idle at 500 when you start it warm. It idles great once you start it cold then idles down to 750 or so.

I'm pretty sure its the "dash pot" causing this. Because it will hold the butterfly a little open, and sometimes not a little open. So it will cause different idles.

Make sense???

Oh yeah, forgot to mention when I start my truck warm, it actually dies unless I blip the throttle. Have no idea why, but thats the way it works. Its tough when someone else drives my truck, because it take awhile for them to figure it out. lol

Check your dashpot, clean it out or disable it by adjusting the set screw all the way up. It's supposed to slow the throttle blade closing down so that the motor doesn't bog itself coming down from a high RPM to idle (e.g., clutch in button off), but if it's all gummy and it just doesn't work right and causes really bizarre idling behaviour. I disabled mine via setscrew until I have a moment to pull it off and clean it up or replace it (god knows what that will cost... SIGH).

If this doesn't help, your throttle body is probably gummed to hell with the black goo of death.

(Don't ask... just stick your fingers in then and find out like a man)

Your in the right place. You'll find many possible solutions, if it's not the dash pot, by looking around the forum for threads related to idle issues.

I haven't stumbled on the right thread yet.
I did pull and clean the throttle body, that didn't fix the sticky part yet.
I will probably pull it again and inspect it.

it seems it would have to be the pot; slightly old, worn spots, larger/smaller spots, slightly out of shape, maybe some jagged edging that is being grabbed on to? I would say to lube it up, with some very thin electronic oil, but then again, I am thinking no, you don't want any kind of lube or anything up there, that any of the carbon or such can stick on to. I would use some electronic parts spray, or pure alcohol spray, and clean it, and see what happens after that.
