22re Idle issues

Ok,

22re manual trans. New tps. Runs strong. No major issues.

I experience strange idle issues. If I set the idle to be correct once warm, it will stick between 1200 and 2000 occasionally.

If I adjust it down, then it will bog down to like 500-600 rpm and be real lumpy.

We're kinda stumped. Any suggestions?

I just had similar issues. Beat my head against a will for a while and threw parts at it. Then, I took a trip over the Sierra Nevada's, and at 10,000 feet it ran great. Weird huh? Anyway, I figured it was mixture then. I decided to replace all my old vacuum lines, and voila, problem solved. Maybe a combination of a bunch of small leaks from loose fitting old hoses. Good luck.

Pull the throttle body off and give it a good cleaning, and also clean out all of the vacuum ports, sometimes they get plugged up and that can cause idle isues.

I was experiencing the same problem, but search there are lots of answers to this. It has something to do with the vacuum, so look for any places it's sucking air in between the mass air flow sensor and the motor. Check the coolant and power steering fluid too because if these are low it will make the trucks idle bad. I was having the same problem and it was just low on coolant. Put some in and it's fixed. Hope this helps.

Vacuum leak is a definite possibility. If you can't find any readily, the easiest thing I've ever found to locate a leak is a smoke machine. A local mechanic has one and found the last one I had in about 3min. This is after having rebuilt the motor and spending two or three days trying to track it down with either and propane. Turns out the cold start injector I'd sealed with permatex had softened due to fuel and was being sucked in to the plenum and just getting worse. Replaced the gasket with a real one and she was good to go.

TB is also candidate........as mentioned.

Oh.......you're sure your timing is correct after new TPS?

X2...I smoke tested mine after replacing all the vacuum lines to see if there were any more leaks. Works well.

Mine is just consistently low - it will run alright, but every now and then it will putter a little bit.

I may try cleaning the TB.

Yea Multiple vac leaks seem likely. Trace them down and fix them. Make sure there are no leaks in the main intake tube from air flow to throttle body.Is the timing correct?

All my hoses look new and fresh. I failed to mention that the motor was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago.

However, I found that a line had snapped off. There is a switch on top of teh valve cover. It has 2 hoses and one of the nipples snapped off the switch. I discovered this while getting my ac charged. The mechanic said it went to the EGR. So, does that sound like the culprit? How much for a new switch?

Ok, It's the brown vsv. Anyone know if I can get that somewhere other than the dealer?

Oh yeah, the mechanic seemed to think it wouldn't affect much. Especially not idle.

Would this effect economy or the idle?

So, I bought the new vsv. It is the brown one for egr. Part no. 90910 12084
cost 172.34 after tax. Insane!!!

I tested the old one. The broken bib looked clogged and I couldn't remove the debris. I applied 12volts and no engagement. It needed to be done.

127 for that lil thing...I think I would have fund a yard to pull one out. I would think that once you have that replaced you'd be good to go. If still having issues you have another vac leak, I would think. Maybe on the TB somewhere or where the intake is pieced together.
