22re Idle Check

22re Idle Check
Anyone know of any cheap tools to check RPMS on a 22re? I don't have the SR5 cluster, so no tach. I have an old style dwell/tach, but I only know how to hook it to the old style coils.
I just did a 150k mile service with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, adjust valves....
When I set the timing, I jumpered the terminals and set it to 5btdc.
The truck doesn't "pull" through the gears like it should. I'm thinking I may have set the timing with the idle too low? Any thoughts?
