22re Hesitation/Idle issues HELP!!!

I bought my 93 toyota 2wd pickup 3 yrs ago and have never had a problem with it, only replaced the radiator when it cracked. When I was driving home one day, a thunderstorm hit and I drove under an overpass and onto the curb to avoid the hail, going through about 2 foot of water to do so. Since then, my truck has been hesitating under load, like it peaks out a 3k rmp and then rockets off after about 5 seconds. After about 10 mins of driving it runs like a dream. Also when I start it up warm it will idle rough at about 500 rpm, acting like a miss, but will quit after a couple minutes and idle at a smooth 800. I originally thought the fuel filter so I changed it, but it still does this. I'm at wits end and dont know where to start to look. PLEASE HELP!!!

wouldnt hydrolock stop it dead in its tracks?

I pulled the plugs and didnt see any obvious signs of hydrolock, and ive been driving it for about 3 weeks like this. Im just getting sick of it hesitating and not having any power.

I agree with Teuf but would also check the plug wires and see if you have one with a crack or the coil wire(run it at night and look for blue spark flying from the wires) and it/they are letting spark escape plus a full tune up if you have not done anything in 3 years would be a good idea no matter what.

I pulled the cap and had a little moisture inside, also the o-ring was bad, sprayed it full of wd-40 and put cap back on, still hesitation at start of driving. will check wires for sparks tomorrow night.

This is probably your problem, view thread below and clean/fix your COR unit next to the glove compartment. YOU WILL BE AMAZED!

Its an electrical relay for the fuel pump. They get corroded, then on a muggy or rainy day they short out; causing bucking and stalling. The symptoms mimic bad fuel pump or a clogged filter. If you have a 22re, Its worth checking out to prevent the problem.

you pull the glovebox, and its on the right near the top, its pretty obvious. mine had 2 fuses with it too.

on another note, i pulled open the VAF meter and there were 2 contacts touching, i fixed those and reset the ecm and its not giving anymore codes, but still hesitates.
