22re head gasket
So whilst rebuilding my 22re I was looking around in my FSM for the torque values for the crank pulley bolt and cam shaft timing gear bolt when it dawned on me that for some stupid dyslexic reason I set my head bolts to 85ft/lbs and not 58ft/lbsam I going to be okay loosening and then 're-torquing the head bolts or did I just trash a head gasket?

Toyota updated their head bolt torque to 6? pounds, I keep forgetting the new specifications so that puts you around 15 foot pounds over. Your torque wrench is bound to have some leeway in accuracy. If it was me I would go ahead and leave it as it is.

Well it's still on the engine stand...it wouldn't be much to to pull the head. So does this mean whenever you change a cam in a 22re you have to replace the head gasket?

I seen where someone on here ratchet strapped a head down to change a cam and had good luck with it. I too tried the ratchet strap and head gasket is holding up. The correct way would be to replace it but I have seen it done and would do the same thing again if I had to.

If you didnt start to strip any holes out when you were torquing i would just leave it be. Especially since you haven't even ran it yet and its a brand new head gasket. They will let loose a little bit after heat cycles. When you go in to do valve adjustments, just hit the head bolts again and make sure they are at the minimum torque (whatever you decide 58lbs or the updated)
