22RE hard to start

My pickup is a 1992 22RE. back in the winter I let it sit for about two months. When I decided to start it, it took me about an hour to get it started & running. It cranked forever before it finally took off. Now every time I start it up it takes alot of cranking to get it going & when it does start it misses for a little while & then idles & runs fine. Even after I run it a couple mile & shut it off for 10 or 15 minutes it starts a little bit better but still misses for a few seconds & then idles fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would check to see if the fuel pump is functioning properly. The fuel filter is in good shape. The Circuit Opening Relay could be getting weak in it. Check for any air leaks. When was the last good tune up?

I have had more problems with the Cold Start Injector Timing Switch, the brown plug under the thermostat. Usually just needs removed and needs a good cleaning.

Are you blowing any steam out the tail pipe?

I would look at my spark plugs and see if one is really clean. Literally if it is leaking water into the cylinder it is steam cleaning it and a sign of a head gasket failure. Then I would do a compression check and compare the readings to each of the other cylinders and see what you got.

Blowing steam on start up isnt necessarily a blown head gasket but if you arent finding any leaks, that would be my next area of looking.
