22re engine running cold
my 22re engine won't heat up all the way. its highest temperature hardly gets out of the red. my first thought is to replace the thermostat. right idea?
also, the past owner said he put a new, larger radiator in there. should i get a hotter rated thermostat to adjust this.

Are you shure its not the gauge? I run a larger rad in my rig too and it warms up just fine. Is there a thermostat in it? If so, check to see what temp it is. it may be too cold.

too cold is as bad as too hot sometimes. the oil isnt hot enough, so its not flowing the way it should. and runnin an engine super cold is the number 2 cause of premature engine failure. (the first is women(sorry ladies on here, not you) not changing their oil for 30,000 miles). a car came in last week for an oil change and had 32,000 on the odo, and she said she bought it brand new, and never did an oil change. the oil came out clumpy. anyways, my temp gauge in my old cluster worked well, along with the new sr5 one i have in(somehow it works FINE). diagnose the cheap stuff first. check the sender. also spot test the engine. then if those fail, then change the gauge.
