22re bite the bullet

well guys i think my little 4 banger bit the bullet... its been blowing white/blueish smoke no coolant in radiator or overflow idle is super erratic ... ive been doing some searching debating on engbldr for a diy rebuild or pay a reputable shop to rebuild, or just get a new longblock. most of the links are dead based on what the search brought up anyone who has a good knowledge of yotas around el paso and would like to end a hand rebuilding or some insight... anyone who wants to earn a little scratch helping me/ teaching me would be appreciated im in the army so there is access to a lift and most tools if needed im trying to be as cost effective as possible as i have a baby on the way and cant be blowing thousands of dollars on swaps etc right now... please any advice or help to get me mobile again would be greatly appreciated

Honestly if you are mechanically inclined at all, I'd just tear it down and measure it all out. The deciding factor for me on a rebuild vs a long block is how much internal damage/ machine work its going to take. If it's pretty much totally out of spec I'd say you would be dollars ahead to buy a long block. If its in spec and could just have the head done and re work the bottom end, then I'd go that route.

Bluish smoke? That's oil burning. You may have a piston ring that went out on you.
