I am trying to time my little stock 87 work truck. It's your basic carb'd 22R.

The setting I need to get to is 0 degrees with the distributor vacuum lines pulled.

The distributor bottoms out at about 5 degrees, I cant bring it down any lower.



I am just not a motor guy, I'm guessing there is something on the carb I need to adjust, I'm just not sure what?

the carb has nothing to do with the timing. wait, wait wait, yur joking right travis? almost had me fooled there for a second. lol

I can install a motor, but tuning it is like speaking French to me. Could my distributor be off a tooth?

to put a reference on it 0 degrees on mine is almost exactly halfway on the adjusting bolt in the bracket if that makes sense to you.

You need to plug the vacuum lines after you pull them.

I am plugging the lines when I check, I pulled and re-indexed the distributor about 10 times, it either runs or it doesn't, and when it does run the timing just will not come down.

Such a pain. the truck runs like a champ too!

maybe the springs (mechanical advance) in the distributor are wore out? are you running an OEM unit or a DUI? I am guess OEM since you said it's your work truck and not the prerunner.

travis when you pull the dizzy you have to make 100 % sure your at TDC on the compression stroke not just TDC. By TDC compression I mean the mark on the balancer has to be at 0 AND the #1 exhaust and intake valve rockers MUST be loose. (not loose by un-tightening them)

also are you certain the timing chain is also correctly lined up? as that will also affect the dizzy, contrary to some people's belief.

I have no idea on the timing chain. The truck had just had a new head installed before i got it. The distributor is stock too.
