22r Coolant temp gage sender

Searched for this here, and I know it has been covered before, but all of them are for EFI which is located between #2 and #3 cyl in the intake manifold. However the carbed version has a temp vacc switch there. I know the other temp switch goes next to the water outlet. (not sure what that controls). And the other sensor with the singe spade type sensor is what I am looking for the location for. the online manaul looks like it belongs in the block somewhere, but can't figure out where. A photo whould be a lot better, thanks.

Dang, I never updated this, I hate when people do this and I completely forgot about it. The one for the gauge is the one that looks like this:

Front of the intake manifold (facing forward) near the fuel pump area between the thermostat housing and the valve cover.

I don't see why it would be any different. Either way, it's going to be screwed into the intake manifold somewhere and the top of it is going to look like the photo I posted. Shouldn't be too hard to find. There is only a few electrical sensors on the carb'd engines. Only 2 of which are related to coolant. The other one is going to have a completely different top on it and will either be green or brown. That will be related to the "emissions control" box. All the others will have vacuum lines instead of electrical wires.

Turns out I've been overlooking it the whole time. I remembered hooking the wire to it. I just swapped motors this past weekend and now when I turn the key the temp gauge pegs out as soon as I turn the key. Any ideas?

Sounds like a grounded wire or bad sensor. Just an FYI Autozone calls this a Coolant Temp Switch. At least for my 87 it does. I don't know if different years had different resistances. If I had to guess I would say since an 85 is the same body style and same Gauge assembly, they should be the same part.

Yes it does use the same sender. I have an SR5 gauge assembly in my base model truck with no issues.
