22R Carburettor - special screw?!? / gasket?

Hey guys,

after two weeks of waiting I finally got my carb-kit and tried to disassemble my carb today - not too successful tho.

I got two questions for you:

Number 1:

Which gasket am I supposed to use on which side of the placeholder? Please have a look on the pic:



Question 2:

How can I loosen this screw!?!? As you can see I wasn't too successful with my tools. I don't want to break it.

when i rebuilt mine i had to let my carb soak in a tupperwear container of PB Blaster for a couple of days. be sure to use the right size screwdriver for the screw also. if it does continue to slip like that you can use a chisel to remove it and locate a new one somewhere. good luck

Oh ... thx for the picture - it helped a lot. I thought this would have been the idle mixture screw.

Do you now what the gizmo obove the idle screw is doing?

Nevertheless I don't know which gasket I should use for the placeholder - there was no gasket at all when I unscrewed the carby...help is highly appreciated...

Hmmm ... what does "soak" mean? Is 2-3 hours enough?

And: Do I have to get the jets out? It feels as they are superglued to the casing :-( ... Currently its just soaking in "as is".

Actually I am asking myself if this will help me for my problem. On the last two rides I had the engine stalled after when I rolled down a hill (without any pressure on the gas pedal) and stopped in front of a traffic light. I have the feeling that it also could be my EGR valve that probably is constantly open...that would also explain the rough idle I had recently. I will have a look on it tomorrow.

Any idea if it is possible to repair a faulty EGR valve? Don't have money to buy a new one :-(

Damn ... I assembled the carby today and my idle is still running like crap. I checked the EGR ... it is working fine.

I'm giving up and gonna sell my 4runner. The only thing I did not try yet is to install a new distributor cap and a new coil, but I don't have any time&money anymore in Australia.

One last thing:
Can anybody explain me the idle screw? I don't get it! The further I screw it inside, the richer the engine runs ... in my head it is the complete opposite way. When I screw something in, I would usually expect that I close a valve. Can anybody explain this?
