1) My tires are Dakota Definity all seasons and they are great. 30x9.5xR15LT
On the sidewall,it says the tire psi is 50psi.
I'm wondering if this is correct. I'm trying to keep good gas milage with correct tire pressure,but it seems at 50 psi,the center of the tread is wearing down more than the rest of the tread.
Any suggestions/thoughts?

2) Why would Pep Boys offer a lifetime tire rotation and balance as long as I own the vehicle the tires were purchased for,if they complain to me..."everytime you come here for tire rotation and balance,we lose money"?

I live in Lancaster,Pa. If any of you's have ever lived or traveled through Lancaster,you'll know that the roads and streets here are the equivalant of the roads in Bosnia. Constantly knocking my tires out of balance. Their are 2 Pep Boys in Lancaster. Approx,every 3 months,I'll take my rig in for my tire roation and balance to either of the 2 stores and the shop managers always roll their eyes and frown at me.
Did they not expect people to use their guarantee?
I don't feel as if Im in the wrong for holding them to their guarantee.I want the longest life and best care for my tires for the price I pay for them.
Call me crazy,but...it's their guarantee...not mine

The max tire inflation on the sidewall of the tire is intended to be for maximum inflation pressure when mounting the tire to the wheel. You should follow the recommended tire pressure on the drivers side door jamb on your 4Runner. Should be around 35psi. You'll have better luck keeping your tires balanced too!

As far as tire wear, running high pressure will "balloon" the tire causing it to wear faster in the center. Under inflation will cause excess wear on the outer edges of the tread. You should be checking your air pressure once every two weeks also since temperature changes and elevation changes will affect the air pressure in the tires.

yep.. run your psi at 35

and dont feel bad for holding them to their word... they bank on people NOT doing it, so when they have someone who actually takes advantage of their offer they get grumpy.. every 3 months isnt that bad.

Im runnin my mudcat exts (looks like a bfg MT tire) at 40psi.

I like em at 40, some say thats too much but these tires are only 2ply. Oh well, i got them for cheap lol.

Run them at 35 and you'll be good to go.

As far as the warrantee from PB, use it! I got the same thing from Discount Tire here and I go in after every wheeling trip, sometimes 3 times a week. The manager has had a few comments and I remind him that I paid my 13$ per tire and have the contract in hand. I do let him know that I'm not going to be an ass and make them rotate the spare into the mix even though I paid for that one also. If I had the SR5 alloy in that tire I'd do it but I hate having an odd rim on the rig.

As soon as I find another alloy they will be rotating 5 tires several times a month. So far I think the rotations have done me well since I have over 10K on the rubber and no signs of wear that are abnormal. Money is tight, squeeze every penny you can.

edit here: my tires are retreads from Treadwright and are only supposed to last about 20K, at this rate they'll be around for close to double that and DT is going to rotate them for years.

I always runs all of my vehicles tires between 35-38 PSI. That 50 PSI is the MAXIMUM presure like the others have said.

I run my Dakota M/T's at about 25psi on the streets. 30psi seems too much to me. When I first had them mounted the tire shop had them at 50psi and I just about had a kidney failure on the way home from the rough ride.

Thanks everyone for your input. Greatly appreciated. I am definetly going to be lookin into better tire pressure tomorrow,soon as the sun comes up.
Thanx for your input on the "Pep Boys" guarantee thingy as well. At least Im thinking the same as the rest of y'all. They made the guarantee and Im just holding them to it.

I find I have to run 35 psi on the front tires and 28-30 on the rear of my truck with no load. I've run 50 psi on the rear when I have a full load only (1000-1500 lbs).


Screw Pep Boys; like was said--they made their money when they sold you the tires. I put @ 600-700 miles a week on my 95 Probe & Mr. Tire sends me notifications every quarter to come have them rotated & balanced. They only offered the lifetime free rotation, so they make money on the balancing, but it's only $5/tire, so I'm not too worried. They've fixed 4 flats (this year!) for free so I'm not complaining.
