1st Gen 4Runner Style Mirrors
Tried to edit the thread title: 1st generation 4Runner "truck style" mirrors.
I'm acitively looking to purchase a local 1st gen 4Runner. I used to have one that had truck style or "west coast" style mirrors. I've looked at the old brochures on line and they don't seem to have been offered as an option. If you look at eBay for "Toyota Truck Mirror" or "4Runner Mirror" all they offer is what I'd call a car mirror. I found these available, meant for a Ford F-100. I was wondering if anyone could measure and see if these would fit. I finally found an 86 4Runner I'm considering but it has the weenie mirrors. These are stainless steel and are 29.95 each with free shipping.

i measured 2 of my first Gen truck doors (i have 4 sets) and had 2 measurements, one was at 6.25" the other is @ 7" between the 2 sets of thread inserts, I would consider to be the more accurate...
edit: moved back to 86-95 folder, OP meant 1st Gen 4Runner, fixed thread title

Thanks! Can't believe you measured them already. I guess these would be a tad too big. I love your Trekker. There were not many of those on the road when they were new.
I guess junk yard would be a good place to get them but they seem to rust under the mirror. I thought the stainless would look nice.

Nice 4Runner! I had those mirrors on my '88 but I sold it in 1996 to get a 3rd generation for baby seats. I need to dig out some photos of it and scan them. I like the mirrors for towing a small boat. So many 4Runners had them but I don't see them offered as an option in the old brochures. Most of the 4Runners that come up for sale seem to have the standard mirrors but I guess many of them have power mirrors.
Yes 85gijunk4x4, I do think they are the same mirrors used on early trucks too. I think it's curious that they are not a standard replacement part on eBay or elsewhere.
OCDropzone, thanks for all the links. I'll spend some time exploring. Weird we just had a hurricane in the OBX and never lost power or the internet.

those mirrors are tough to find.I got mine NIB from ebay for $75.They were also used on isuzu troopers in the early 90's.I saw a set at the yard a few months ago, figured I should get a spare set, went back and it had been crushed.D'Oh.I almost used the peterson mirror myself.I have a 92 with the camper top, tough to see behind truck while driving. The west coast style helps but its not as perfect as I thought.Their was also a longer bracket style mirror on the 4 runner that looks good. They were installed in the US after many complaints about the small flag style mirror. There doesnt seem to be a record of the company that made them.Good luck on your search.

Those mirrors us the same top to holes so all you have to do is get some from a junk yard and drill tow holes and put in sheet metal screws and put them on its kind of ez.
I found these http://www.carid.com/1988-toyota-pic...m-1107198.html

Holy old thread. I posted in 2010 before I had my present 1st gen 4Runner. I'm a fan of these mirrors but I think they are easy to tear off if you are a big off roader. The term to search on eBay is "compact truck mirror." In the old days the mirrors were on all the mini trucks. The ones they sell for Broncos are too big. I like these because they are stainless steel:
