1993 Toyota Pickup 4X4 Steering Clunk
Bought this P/U for my son first vehicle seems like a pretty solid truck other than turning hard left has a heavy clunking. I put it up on blocks and ran it turning R/L dont hear any noise. So it happens w/weight on suspension on turns making it difficult to diagnose anyone got any ideas?

The plastic caps are probably worn out on the steering stops. My 92 4runner does it does it at full lock for both right and left turns. A little grease on all four takes care of it for a while. I don't turn quite so hard if I can help it until I get some more grease on them. I've read that somebody sells replacement caps though. I'd probably have to replace the threaded stops along with the caps to fix mine on a more permanent basis.

My 4Runner does the same thing...I have new A-arm bushings to put in up top and some new inner wheel bearings. You might want to check the sway bar bushings as well. As you turn, the vehicle will sway and the sway bar will twist in a sense so that could be the clunking you hear. The links are attached to the lower A-arm and the rear bushings are bolted to the frame.

As said above, grease the steering stops first and see if that cures it. If so, it's a harmless noise and almost all of these trucks do it. You can keep after it with grease (which won't last all that long betweeen applications), replace the plastic caps (which also won't last all that long), or ignore it, which will solve the problem permanently:-)
If the grease doesn't cure it, then you have something else going wrong that you need to troubleshoot. My bet is on the steering stops, however.
