1992 pickup speedometer electric or cable driven?

i picked up an sr5 gauge cluster from the junkyard this past weekend and it is cable driven, but i was wondering if my 1992 pickup was either electric or cable before i start taking my dash apart.

I am fairly confident that its an electronic... I think 92-94 was the years for the electronic speedo sensor.

if it's a 22RE manual trans, it should be a cable. you should be able to see it coming through the firewall.

rockauto.com shows it for $8.52

or stick your head under the truck and look for it on the trans.

To the OP if its mechanical, it will have a round plug on the back, passenger side of the tranny.

if its electric it will have a black, rectangular plug that you can undo like any other plug on a wiring harness.

Speedo cable issues

I have a 1988 4runner that was an automatic with a Speedo cable, but recently swapped it with a 5spd from a 1994. The 94 is set up for an electronic speed sensor. Is there any year when they were interchangeable? Can I still set up a Speedo cable instead of the electronic sensor?

The 1992 2wd 22R-E 5-speed truck had an electric speedo, It was wreaked and I bought the full gauge cluster for 20 bucks and stuck it in my 93 4wd truck after adjusting the odometer. How to on that is on my build thread...
