1990 toyota 4runner engine swap

Hey guys. I have a rig with a blown head gasket and I'm pretty sure a blowed exhaust valve as well. Many people told me to put a napkin on the end of the tail pipe to see if it sucks in air. It did indeed suck the napkin at times. So bear with me. I need opinions on what I should do. Should I keep riding it till the engine blows and swap the engine? Or change the valve and gasket? Also, can a v8 fit in there? Like with the same tranny as the v6? It's a 4x4 auto tranny. Thanks!

Depends on your budget and/or mechanical ability.

Well I mean I just want opinions and I can go from there. Doesn't matter like budget wise. I can spend a lot or a little. And I only know little about mechanical so bear with me please

Well you can
A. Rebuild/fix the 3.0 you currently have.
B. Swap in a 5vz and swap to a manual trans.
C. Swap in a 5vz with a newer auto trans with a gear driven transfer case.
D. Swap in a Toyota V8.
E. Swap in a diesel.
Options are endless with no budget just depends what you want and how you use the vehicle.

Okay thanks. You know around how much it is for a 5vz with auto tranny? Or can I just get a 3.4 and just drop it in with the auto tranny of the 3.0? I'm not thinking on rebuilding mine as it leaks oil like hell from many, many sides.

Price will depend on if you do it your self or pay someone. I have about 1k in my 1st 5vz swap(manual trans). That is doing all the work myself. I am about to start a 5vz with auto trans swap when funds start rolling in.

Oh alright I see. But will the 3.4 fit on my tranny? My engine currently is a 3.0 auto tranny

Yes, but I would swap to a newer trans while your swapping the 3.4 in. Might even be easier with the wiring part of it going with the auto originally behind the 3.4.

Hmmm. Alright because the tranny I got is semi new. I assume it will need an ecu as well? Or does it come with the engine? See this is the thing. I'm in Lafayette Indiana and can't figure out a place that has an engine for my truck. You know a website that can tell me the nearest place so I can get an engine? That would really help me a lot if you don't mind.

Look in salvage yards, craigslist. Other places for a rebuilt engine you might not find local but the could ship to you.

I also got wondering. If I don't really drive highways or pull anything can I just be fine by rebuilding the engine? Cause of what I hear people say they get the 3.4 to haul more things easier.
