1990 T4R auto tranny slipping
My 1990 T4R has 303k miles. I have had it for about 10 years now, and the transmission has always seemed a little "sensitive". It has of course always had the cold start/high rpms issue, which I amended by cranking and letting the truck run for a few minutes before I hit the road. About 2 1/2 years ago, I had to change out the solenoids in the lower pan, I think, because when I would come to a stop and than accelerate, it would not move hardly at all, and than it would slam into gear. After the solenoid change, there were no further problems like that, and in general, the transmission seemed to run a lot better for awhile longer. Over the past couple of months, however, I have noticed that it seemed to be shifting, rougher, I guess than usual, from 3rd to 4th gear. Than, the other night, I was driving along and the tranny started slipping in and out between 3rd and 4th, and the rpms were fluctuating with the slips. I'm afraid that this isn't as simple of a fix as the solenoids were. Does this sound like the end of my tranny? Any help is appreciated, and if anyone knows of a reliable and affordable outlet for rebuilt or used trannys for my yota I would love to have the contacts. Feel like my best friend is dying.... don't want to let him go.
