1990 4runner 22re conveted carb'd: MSD and Stock Tach

My 1990 22re was converted to carb'd. Got a weber with 22r vac advance distributor.

Using the stock 22r igniter and MSD blaster coil, the tach worked fine. After installing the MSD 6AL-2 I lost the tach--which I knew would happen as I needed the adapter.

I was advised to get the 8920 MSD Tach Adapater since I'm using the dizzy's magnetic pickup to trigger the MSD.

Today I wired up the 8920 and still no working tach. Even traced the black wire on unused igniter plug to the #7 on the blue pin of the instrument panel--which is supposed to be for tach trigger.

Wondering has anyone converted carb from EFI, eliminated their stock igniter by use of MSD box, and yet managed to get the stock tach working?

I'm thinking perhaps the tach needs more than just the trigger wire from MSD tach adapter when removing the stock igniter.

Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
