1990 and 1993 Radio illumination and speaker questions

I just installed a 1993 radio in my 1990 truck and the tuning dial and the buttons don't illuminate with headlights on or off...

I'm wondering is there's a problem with the wiring or because of a change between the two model years.

The 1990 truck has Daytime Running Lights as it's a canadian model and the dash instruments lights are turned on with the ignition switch on this one (I think I had to turn on the headlights switch on my former 1993 to have instrument lights on and my current 1993 is a US model without DRL so I can't compare). And the lights worked in the 1993 radio when I removed them in my former truck.

There are no rear speakers on this truck and there is no small connector for the rear speakers either.

What should I check?

Also, my 1993 SR5 has rear speakers and the factory radio was replaced with a newer aftermarket radio as well as the speakers. There are small electronic boards still in the rear speaker boxes and I'm wondering what they are. Also, are there any replacement speakers that fit the hole where the factory rear speakers were? The ones currently there have higher wattage but they are a bit too small so they don't seal completely in the boxes. I know that the factory speakers had a weird size and so far, I haven't found aftermarket ones that correctly fit there...

If it isn't too much trouble, pull them both back out and compare wiring harnesses. On the 93 it should have a green wire somewhere on the bigger harness for parking lights. Look on hte 90 harness and see if there is a wire there or not. I fit is missing a wire in that location you may need to rig soemthing. There also may be another dimmer wire, I forget color, black/white or white/black possibly. Google should be able to find it on Installdr.com or something. The boards in the back enclosures are amplifiers. I would bypass them with an aftermarket radio because the input will be off, and the stock speakers aren't 4 ohms, iirc. I have fit Infiniti speakers in the back with a bunch of silicone around them to seal them.
