1989 pickup with a 22R?

A guy locally is selling an old 1989 2wd pickup that is cheap enough I'm tempted to snag it, take stuff I want/need, and then part it out. Thing is, it has a carbed motor in it - the pics show a clear filter housing and the engine's stamped "22R". Did they even still make carbed 22-series engines in '89? I could have sworn 85 was the last year for the carbed motor.

Is there any demand for old 22R parts? I don't want this hunk sitting in my driveway for longer than a few weeks if at all possible, and I don't want the money tied up in it, either.

Thanks for any advice

yep- my buddys got an 89 with a carb.

85 was the FIRST year for EFI, not the LAST year for CARB; I've been told in commercial models you could get a 22r clear up to 95

Parts are very easy to come by for those. Any parts store should have most anything you need, i'd say go for it.

the truck has a broken front control arm - i'm definitely buying it to part and scrap. i can't afford two vehicles anyways, and lord knows i'm not getting rid of my 4wd

I sure hope that Rust Bomb is cheap.

makes my truck look beautiful.

Not that it really matters, but i dont think that xtracab had a carb 22r originally.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna go pick up the box and passenger door and let the rest slide. Not worth my time

Actually 84 was the first year that EFI came out in trucks.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 1990 was the last year Toyota put the carbed 22r in the pickup and/or runner, so I'd say it's legit

Check the decal on the hood, if it's still there. Else, copy the VIN and call Toyota.

Around 92. Late 90's for other countries.
