1989 4runner AC dryer
I am finding out RockAuto probably is thinknig that the 89 year is the changeover year for the 4runner. I ordered a new dryer/reciever to get my AC system up and going. Well I compare the new one with the old on the truck and you can tell the top is differnt. The one i got has two threaded ports for inlet and outlet, the one on the truc khas a single port. Well my question is, is the 88 4runner AC system the same as the 89 4runner with 22re, or is the 89 a bastard year? This will be the second time i got wrong parts from Rockauto, i ordered front brake pads and they were incorrect. Seems they lump the 89 4runner as the next years model.

abe bought one for his truck a couple years ago and his is an 88 4runner. it had two threaded ports on it but he also says his has the 'supercool' option so i don't know if that makes a difference. there are two condensers for that year and they are different according to him but we don't know if the accumulator/ receiver drier is different. the one he got was too small for the bracket to hold it so its hard to say that he got the right one then

RockAuto's a very good vendor and I've bought a lot of parts from them over the years, but I find that they don't carry as many Japanese-made parts as they used to. Regardless, I have an 89 pickup and always double-check their parts by the pictures or however I can since their catalog is a little fuzzy.
Lately, I've been buying more from autohausaz - they're a great women-owned and operated business that usually only carries top quality parts, OEM mfrs if available, for great prices. I see they have a Denso receiver/drier for your year 4runner for $30. There's a pic so you can see if it matches yours.
